To recognize the achievements of high school graduates and their interest in pursuing higher education, the Volunteer Adult Leader Association would like to honor individuals who have participated in the Ellis County 4-H program for their outstanding citizenship, contribution, participation, and leadership. This scholarship program awards individuals for their overall commitment and service to the Ellis County 4-H program.

District 8 Scholarship Opportunities


D8 TAE4-HA Scholarship | 2021  scholarship opportunity has expired.

District 8 4-H members who have NOT received a 4-H Foundation or Terry Foundation scholarship are eligible to apply for the D8 TAE4-HA Scholarship. All applications will be reviewed by a scholarship committee; all decisions will be final. Applications must be complete to be accepted. This scholarship is available to 4-H members who plan to attend a college, university, or technical school in Texas or out-of-state. Scholarships & Grant Opportunities Available Through Ellis County Youth Expo 

ECYE MERIT Scholarship | 2021 scholarship opportunity has expired.

Each Year the Ellis County Youth Expo commits funding for scholarships for graduating seniors. The following criteria must be met for a student to apply for the scholarship

  1. Must be a graduating senior who is a member of a 4-H club or FFA chapter within Ellis County at the time of application
  2. Must exhibit at least 2 years in the Ellis County Youth Expo (can include current year)
  3. Must submit all 3 parts of the required application at one time by the deadline
  4. Scholarship money will be awarded when the student is enrolled in college and a copy of the tuition bill is submitted to the committee
  5. Scholarships must be used in the year following graduation and claimed by January 1 of the year following graduation
  6. Recipients may use the scholarship at any junior or senior college or university—private, public, or technical. Recipients may major in any field

Student Application Evaluation Criteria

Applications will be evaluated equally on the following 5 merit areas:

  1. Ellis County Youth Expo participation
  2. FFA and/or 4-H participation
  3. School and community participation
  4. Scholarship
  5. Essay on plans

ECYE Grant | 2023 scholarship opportunity has expired.

The Ellis County Youth Expo, through its fundraising activities (selling ad space in the current year Program Publication), awards grants in a quantity and amount determined by the leadership of the fundraising activities. Over the last three years 85, $500.00 grants were awarded. The application process is anonymous and is age group-specific. A set number of High School, Middle School, and Elementary School grants are awarded. There is no limit to the number of grants exhibitors can receive, but only one per year. The only qualification is that a student is an exhibitor in this year’s show AND achieves the $3500 ad-space sell goal by February 19th. Achievement of the $3500 goal is done as a group (i.e. Ellis County 4-H club as a whole sells a minimum of $3500 in ad space from local businesses, corporations, and individuals/families).

Ellis County Syndicate MERIT Scholarship | 2021 scholarship opportunity has expired.

Four $2500.00 scholarships will be available. The following criteria must be met for a student to apply for the scholarship:

  1. Must be a graduating senior who is a member of a 4-H club or FFA chapter within Ellis County at the time of application
  2. Must exhibit at least 2 years in the Ellis County Youth Expo (can include current year)
  3. Applications must be postmarked no later than April 30, 2021
  4. Scholarship recipients will be announced at the awards banquet in May

Ellis County Master Gardener Association Scholarship | Application deadline has expired

One of the objectives of the ECMGA is to build partnerships with the Ellis County community to expand horticultural education and opportunities. In keeping with this objective, the ECMGA has scholarship funds available to deserving high school seniors pursuing studies in horticulture/life science-related fields. To qualify, the applicant must be a graduating high school senior residing in Ellis County from an Ellis County High School, Ellis County Charter High School, or Ellis County Home School Program. The applicant must have an elected academic major in a horticulture/life science-related field that includes but is not limited to horticulture, agriculture, environmental science, forestry, botany, biology (e.g.: plant genetics, plant physiology), landscape design, or entomology. Applicants must be able to provide proof of acceptance at an accredited institution of higher education. In addition, this year the ECMGA has decided to allow former ECMGA College Scholarship Awardees currently enrolled in horticulture programs/life sciences degree plans to also apply for an ECMGA 2023 College Scholarship to continue their college/university studies.

The 2024 ECMGA Scholarship opportunity has expired.


Blackland Income Growth Application | 2022 scholarship opportunity has expired.

The Blackland Income Growth awards twelve scholarships to outstanding 4-H members in Blackland counties.  There are ten $1,000 scholarships and two $1,500 scholarships that were presented at the annual B.I.G. luncheon.  The two $1,500 scholarships are awarded to applicants planning to study agribusiness.

B.I.G. is an open organization and as such, cordially invites and welcomes the full support of all persons having a personal interest in the general well-being of the agricultural and agri-business economy of the area.  Educational programs conducted by B.I.G. serve people of all ages regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, sex, religion, handicap, or national origin.  

 

ASABE Texas Section Cleon Namken Memorial Scholarship | 2020 scholarship opportunity has expired.

The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) Texas Section will award the Cleon Namken Memorial Scholarship annually to a graduating high school senior enrolling in college with plans to pursue a degree in engineering with an emphasis in soil or water-related fields. A recommendation from an ASABE Texas Section member is beneficial but not mandatory.

Scholarship Qualifications:

  • Plan to be an engineering major with an emphasis in a soil or water-related field.
  • Plan to attend a public or private Texas university or college.
  • Plan to be a full-time college student (minimum hours per university policy).
  • Required to be a Texas resident at the time of the scholarship application.
